Ashley Williams has called on Everton to “stick at it and work through this period” after their spirited display was not enough in a 2-1 home defeat to Lyon.
After falling behind to Nabil Fekir’s sixth-minute penalty, Williams got Goodison rocking when he powered a header home from Gylfi Sigurdsson’s free-kick on 69 minutes.
But after Sigurdsson hit the post from another set piece, the French visitors hit the Blues with a suckerpunch winner 15 minutes from time.
The result leaves Everton with a single point from their three Group E matches so far.
